Hey Murphy.. how’s it going?

Posted in:Old Posts | 1 Comment »

It’s amazing. in the past 2 weeks Murphy has been able to give me a big kick in the ass. Just when you think you understand things, he likes to come around and give you a reminder tap that he’s around.

I’m going to take this post in reverse. It should be somewhat momento-esqe this way. (which btw is an excellent movie) My last entry outlined being away from home. I actually spent 2 weekends down here until I went back to Duluth marking the longest time away from home. I ended up crashing at a friends house since my parent’s don’t like me coming home at 2 in the morning. I can’t really blame them, the dogs bark and the garage door sound is one that simply can’t be muffled. Sunday however, my car took a turn for the worse. To make a long story short, the intake valve on cylinder 2 is frozen open from what we can tell. Luckily I was about a mile away from my garage in Duluth so I was able to limp it home. The plan is to pick up a new head and swap it on Friday night before MNSC’s Spring Cruise on Saturday.

So here I am, in St. Louis Park where I said I’d be worried if something happened. I have no car, thus no reliable method of transportation to or from work but do have a ride back this weekend. Some of my friends came through for me in a big way and were able to give me a ride down here today. It’s a good feeling that I have someone I can rely on when I’m down. One thing I’ve learned living down here recently is friends are more and more important so I’m very thankful for the ones I made. It doesn’t matter if my car isn’t running, or I’m stranded in Superior with $2 and no keys, they’ve been there for me both in Duluth and in Minneapolis.

All in all though I’m feeling pretty good about things right now. I definitely have closure to some things that bothered me in the past and moving on is all that’s left. I’ve been thinking about stepping back some from the car club as I’ve taken a very active roll lately in what’s going on. I need to step back a bit and start focusing on djing again. It’s been too long since I’ve played for a crowd, we can’t have anyone thinking I’ve given up now can we.

Away from home.

It’s really weird. I hated living in Duluth / Superior for a long time. I’ve always talked about moving down to Florida or California but have never really gone forward with the idea beyond applying at a couple places. I moved down to Minneapolis back in December after being offered a position here at Identix. I kept my job at the Sports Garden at first to give me something to keep me going back home at first. In the past year I’ve made a ton of good friends in Duluth, it made leaving so much harder.

One thing I think that’s funny now is the feeling I get whenever I drive back to Duluth. I haven’t stayed away longer than 2 weeks yet (which coincidently is the longest I’ve ever been away from home) but it always seems like so long. I’m guessing its because I’m still more comfortable in Duluth. Hell last weekend I didn’t really have anywhere to stay and I still wasn’t worried at all. Down here I’d be somewhat worried.

I spent this past weekend at “home”. It was actually a pretty good weekend all things considered. Friday night I went out to Porky’s which is considered the “strip” out there. It was weird being one of the slowest cars within a group for once. Granted they have twice as many cylinders but hey, I get better gas mileage. (maybe)

Saturday consisted of heading out and watching Rod dyno his Focus up at HiTech. He mad an astoudingly impressive 228whp @ 4000rpms. Due to the wastegate not opening though he’s going to have to get a new one and take another run at it. Afterward’s we went out to eat at BW3′s in Ramsey, then proceeded to go out to the HarMar mall. Not really anyone showed up (MNSC was supposed to get people together there), we had 5 cars altogether and I knew everyone so it wasn’t too bad.

Sunday we were supposed to head to Rock Falls but never made it down. The weather called for thunderstorms so rather than go there on 5 hours of sleep, I opted for another 3 hours of sleep. The rest of the day was pretty laid back, went over to a friend’s house and watched him work on his $200 car and then went over to Matt’s house and spun some records. I managed to not eat out at all yesterday which is pretty good for me. I need to start cooking more at home because it’s too expensive to eat out all the time even if it’s fast food.

Anyways, this week looks to be pretty good once Friday rolls around. Money is low but I have a full tank of gas and the Focus is running pretty good. Speaking of the car, I have some things in the works for it. Anyone want to lend me $5000?

The definition of one’s self.

It’s funny, I look at my existance 5 years ago and feel I’ve made a much larger imprint on the world. Back then I was just starting to DJ. Nobody in Duluth had heard me DJ. I’ve spun for thousands of people at the clubs, probably more through the radio station. My radio show had an incredible market share and I have tons of letters from listeners still. I guess I was doing something right. DJing was the first thing I did to “break out of my shell”.

For those of you that don’t know, I grew up a computer geek. From the age of 13 when I received my first computer I was fascinated. I have alot of good memories from those days. Brandon, Chris Xu, and myself skipping our PSEO classes and getting the dollar special at Hardees or going to someone’s house and hanging out there. The time we spent programming and learning off of each other. When I graduated I decided I needed to leave a bigger mark. Ignorant happiness tends to only go so far I guess.
